I had a meeting today with my insurance agent who is making a push into renters insurance in Fargo ND where we both live. It seems that even though he has developed a facebook fan page for his business he seems to be struggling with the idea of using it for prospecting. The only purpose for having a fan page is to expose people to your business so I suggested he should post little messages about how much he saved people on their insurance by switching them to Farmers. This is similar to how most companies do their ad campaigns on TV. Since he wants to expand the amount of Renters Insurance he sells I asked him if it’s possible to save people enough money on their auto insurance that they could use the savings to pay for renters insurance? He said this is not only possible but it’s something he has already done in personal presentations. Then why not use this information on Facebook? If you saved a 34 yr old couple enough money on their car insurance to pay for their renters (or home) insurance go ahead and post it! Next, make a link available right beneath the statement where they can click to get a free rate quote of their own.
Will this really work? Why wouldn’t it? Progressive has built a multi-billion dollar company by showing examples of how much people have saved by switching. The same is true with Geico. Very few insurance agents have a big budget to work with, but they can definitely afford to post a quick message to their fan page!
