Email Marketing Strategies
Over the past 10 years, Email Marketing has been my most profitable method of selling goods and services, but now the aggressiveness of spam filtering has changed the game. It has become harder and harder to get our mail delivered on an ongoing basis. Even as you're reading this letter, a massive industry shift is taking place that's going to dramatically affect whether 40% or 80% of the email you send gets delivered or filtered as spam! Obviously, if your email doesn't get delivered, your sales and profits are going to suffer as well.
Step #1: Choosing A Database Service
The most important first step is to choose a reputable company to run your database and deliver your email messages. I use Aweber because Tom Kuzler has taken the time to build relationships will all the major email services and has run a clean business. Due to their attention to detail, I have found their delivery rates to be excellent. Aweber's infrastructure is impressive as well, they run a powerful server farm, so even if you have a large list it can be delivered in a short period of time. In the 6 years I've used them, I only remember one time where their service was down for a few hours and I have never lost any customer records. My databases are my most valuable assets and I have been very satified with how well they have been protected.
Step #2: Use Autoresponders To Truly Help People
People do not want just another "Sales Pitch"! They come to the web to find help making decisions. Unfortunately, most information found online is just another sales pitch.
In both my credit card business and my sales with Dish Network, the key to my success was a series of followup emails that occurred after they made their initial search. I didn't write emails that were a "rehash" of marketing material, I would simply "Write from the heart" and I found that people really responded to my sincerity. I would start out by saying "Thank you for taking the time to do a search through my site, I realize you have many choices and my goal is to help you sift through them and find your best alternative as quickly as possible". I would let them know the Pros & Cons of each option and let them make the final choice. Normally when I received a phone call from a potential customer, they would start out by saying "I was just reading the email you sent me & .....". I was initially amazed by how I was able to reach people in a massive way on such a personalized level.
By keeping things balanced and not sounding like an advertising copywriter, I was able to help thousands of people find the right solutions for themselves. In my opinion, that is the key to effective marketing.
Tip: Take your time writing your email responses. Once you have written them, send them to yourself and don't read them until the following morning. If it feels too much like a "sales pitch", tone it down and try to make if as personal as possible. People buy from people...... they don't buy slick sales pitches!
